One of my best friends is the artist/illustrator Doug Cushman. I have known Doug forever, he is by far the most accomplished illustrator I know – Doug has written and/or illustrated more than 130 books over the past 30 years. Doug and I often hang out, play guitar and sample some of the wine he discovers at his local restaurant - Le Sot l’y Laisse.
Doug creates most of his books in his studio in Paris’s 11éme district but he also does a lot of painting outdoors all over France (en plein air), one of his favorite places to paint is the incredible cimetiere du Père Lachaise in Paris, Doug invited me a few weeks ago to tag along with him while he went there to sketch/paint, as usual I brought my movie camera – the above short film is the result.
Doug has a website for his latest children’s book ‘Pigmares’ - pigmares.com
Merci Doug for helping me with this post.
